What is Ashfall?

Ashfall, as mentioned earlier, is an adventure shooter MMORPG set in a post-apocalyptic world that has seen an uprising in artificial intelligence push humans to the brink of extinction after a nuclear war. The few remaining survivors have been forced to live underground in vaults for many years, but the time has finally come for you and your friends to venture out into the world again in hopes of saving humanity.

“Ashfall’s framework is all about rebuilding,” said Ashfall designer Jesse. “It takes place in a future world where artificial intelligence is starting an uprising and waging a war against humans. After the nuclear apocalypse, there are only ruins left in the world and you must leave your vault to search the legendary key known as the Core of Creation to save all.

While Ashfall will eventually come to consoles, the MMO is set to release for the first time in 2023 on PC, iOS, and Android.

How Ashfall Stands Out From Other Post-Apocalyptic Games

The post-apocalyptic genre in the world of video games is one that has been visited many times before, but Ashfall seeks to stand out from the pack with its unique take that emphasizes Eastern cultures and player freedom.

“Ashfall is different from previous great wasteland-themed games because we tried to give players a new experience when they play it,” Jesse said. “To this end, we shed light on our project team’s advantages to the fullest and incorporated unique oriental vibes such as various Chinese-style buildings, monsters and folk customs.”

The Legendary Star Studio team also emphasizes immersion and wants players to feel like they’re actually part of the world of Ashfall, thanks to motion capture, a time-lapse weather system. real, exciting and meaningful combat situations. , an extensive character creator, and much more.

Oh, and wait until you hear about the music and why it seems to elevate Ashfall even more.

Ashfall’s soundtrack is co-created by Oscar winner Hans Zimmer and a legendary team

The music is perhaps one of Ashfall’s biggest selling points, as it’s produced by Hans Zimmer, Inon Zur and Oscar-winning Steve Mazzaro, and they’ll use Ashfall’s unique blend of Eastern culture. and a devastated desert to create music that will help bring out the heart and emotion of the story and the world.

“Ashfall’s scope not only includes a post-apocalypse world, but also uses various unique elements from Eastern cultures, which provides a lot of inspiration for this cooperation,” Zur said. “We think this is a very special and unique take on the genre, and we hope to use the music to bring a new understanding and presentation of the post-apocalyptic world and to show the charm of a game world to players all over the world.”

This musical mission will be completed by weaving music into all aspects of Ashfall and carefully crafting tracks for specific moments – whether it’s going on a quest, experiencing a story moment, or just exploring. the desert.

“In terms of music, we hope to help everyone understand the world better through memorable and compelling melodies,” Mazzaro said. “The sheet music will accompany everyone as they explore the world and embark on a wonderful adventure.

“Additionally, our goal is to incorporate a number of unique instruments to go along with the game’s story and combat, and as the music plays, players will be able to experience the intensity of the game. adventure even with your eyes closed.

“We have always believed that the synergy between music and games is something extremely meaningful. Not only will music be able to enhance and complement the game itself, but it will also bring a combined experience of art, games and music to players. We are hopeful that through our collaboration with Ashfall, we will be able to create an immersive experience like no other for everyone.

Ashfall gameplay walkthrough features character creation, high-level play, and massive bosses

IGN’s Alan Wheeler was able to get hands-on with Ashfall to try out an in-progress version of the MMO, and during the Ashfall Showcase he was able to create a character and give fans a look at low- and high-level gameplay. .

Ashfall wants to give you the tools to create the character – called Wanderer – that represents you the most or the character you want to create and play with for hours. In the character creator, you start by creating the appearance of the character, and then you have to make choices about what type of wanderer you want to be.

These choices manifest as Prototypes and Traits. These serve as a class and specific traits that can give you a leg up in an facet of the game that you want to excel at.

Do you want to be a charming fast-talking wanderer who can get the best discounts at any store? Go for the Employee Prototype and the Silver Tongue and Charmer traits. Want to go with guns in any situation? Choose a prototype Gunslinger with the Nine Lives and Born Leader traits. There are a ton of options, and that’s just the beginning. As you level up, you will be able to continue developing the character you want to play. Although there are more, the full list of prototypes and traits is as follows;

Prototypes: Drifter, Sheriff, Scavenger, Mercenary, Salary, Hunter, Sniper, Bodyguard, Assassin, Arms Dealer, Renown Hero, and Average Joe

Features: The Lucky One, Back Dancer, Silver Tongue, Nine Lives, Nomad Genes, Charmer, Artisan, Born Leader, Couch Potato and Mutation Prone

After creating his character, Alan was introduced to Drolma, an older woman who needs help clearing out some mutated bugs. There are dialogue choices and a narrator that further fills out the story unfolding in front of you.

We then take a look at the actual gameplay, as Alan leveled up his character to keep the bugs from spiraling out of control. Ashfall is played in third person and encourages players to hide behind cover while waiting for the perfect moment to attack. There is also a mix between gunplay, grenades, skills and much more.

Later, we were taken to a place called Iron Cage Cavern where we got to see how playing with an AI partner would work. Alan also had access to bigger and better weapons like a sniper rifle and an assault rifle. He needed to free some prisoners, but not before he had to take down a teleporter boss who was doing everything he could to stop him in his tracks.

Alongside the gameplay, we are also treated to a trailer that showed more of the open world and the many areas that players will explore including a desert and a beach filled with shipwrecks. On the beach, we were even shown a boss battle against a huge boss known as the Crayfish Commander, and it looks like a formidable foe worthy of rallying your best friends to defeat it.

There’s a lot more to reveal about Ashfall before it comes to PC, iOS, and Android in 2023, and we can’t wait to share all the new details as we get closer to launch!
