NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WTVF) – A new venue for concerts and events is coming to Madison is unlike any other location in Middle Tennessee.
The Roots Barn is currently under construction and is expected to open in spring 2022. It will be a state-of-the-art 600-seat site located behind historic Amqui Station.
It is part of a campus that will include a new stand-alone “green room” building where artists can prepare for performances, a public park and a tree-lined Madison Station boulevard.

The installation is built with century-old wood from all over the country. It was inspired in part by the legendary Wolftrap barns in Maryland. The barn will be designed for concert audio ideas for electric and acoustic music.
The Roots Barn will also provide a permanent home for the Music City Roots Wednesday night shows. The show launched in late 2009 and has become a staple in Nashville and the national roots music scene.
“The idea is no longer just once a week, but seven days a week, we can do things the way we’ve always imagined,” said John Walker, executive producer of Music City Roots. “We are open to all kinds of music. We want everyone to feel welcome here.”
In addition to Music City Roots on Wednesday evenings, The Roots Barn will host paid shows. Next to the barn, a separate building will house a studio for WMOT Roots Radio 89.5 FM, Middle Tennessee State University’s 100,000-watt Americana-format public radio station.
There will be a free community event on site on Saturday July 10 starting at 4:30 pm It will feature music from the McCrary Sisters. The Roots Barn will also host an old-fashioned barn lifting event on Thursday August 5 to celebrate the site’s opening in spring 2022.
