VScountry music fans are saddened to learn that one of the icons of the genre faces the biggest fight of her life, trying to beat cancer.
Toby Keith, five of whose albums have reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Music chart, told fans that late last year a team of medical experts determined he was suffering from stomach cancer.
Via a post on Twitter, the 60-year-old singer announced that he first underwent surgery and then received chemotherapy and radiation therapy. All this over a period of six months.
“So far, everything is going well. I need time to breathe, recover and relax. I look forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans as soon as possible. I can not wait,” he noted.
However, the singer from Oklahoma will have to wait longer for his probable return to the stage, because physically he does not feel well.
He even had to cancel one of his presentations scheduled for June 17 in Wheaton, Illinois.
A similar case occurred with another concert he was to give on July 28 in Columbus, Ohio, as part of the Ohio State Fair.
Therefore, it is unknown what Toby Keith’s schedule will be for the rest of the year.
The irony of the matter is that since 2006, the artist has supported hundreds of children through a foundation created to pprovide them with the necessary resources to carry out their treatments.
Solidarity demonstrations of support
Upon learning of the drama Keith is going through, several of his famous friends have shown their solidarity with him and his family through posts on social media.
“Hang on, @tobykeith,” noted John Rich of country duo Big & Rich.
“Wishing my great friend a speedy recovery and lots of love from most redheads around the world,” wrote singer Sammy Hagar, alongside a photo of the two.
It should be noted that before turning to music, Keith worked in the oil industry and also played in the USFL football league.
