It could be the “start of something new”.

Zac Efron has revealed he’s very open to the possibility of returning to the Disney “High School Musical” franchise for a reboot – if there should be one.

Asked during an interview with E! News if he would be interested, the 34-year-old said “sure.”

“I mean to have the opportunity in any form to go back and work with this team would be so amazing,” the ‘Firestarter’ actor said. “My heart is still there. It would be amazing. I hope that will happen.

The TV movie “High School Musical” first aired on the Disney Channel in 2006 and was followed by a sequel in 2007. A third movie, “High School Musical 3: Senior Year”, was released in theaters in 2008 .

The franchise’s legacy currently lives on in the Disney+ series “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.” The show features a new cast of teenage theater kids who embark on a journey to stage “High School Musical” as a school production.

“My heart is still there. It would be amazing. I hope that happens,” Efron said.

Last year, the original film’s star Monique Coleman – who played Taylor McKessie – told Insider that her character always wore headbands, saying the makeup and hair team didn’t know how to style black hair.

“We’ve grown a lot in this industry, and we’ve grown a lot in representation and we’ve grown a lot in terms of understanding the needs of an African-American actress,” Coleman, 41, said.

“But the truth is, they did my hair, and they did it really badly in front,” she said.

She recalled that she recommended stylists “incorporate headbands into her character” and “just make it a part of who she is”. The Disney team was “very open to [the] comments,” she said.

Coleman noted that despite the crew’s inexperience, she loved the opportunity to become a role model for young girls of color.

“I’m really grateful to have been someone who was able to bring representation at a time when there wasn’t much, and I’m so happy when I see this next generation of young artists and they there is so much more room for people of color,” she said.
