New music studio opens in Preston County

MASONTOWN, West Virginia (WBOY) – West Virginia Sound Foundry celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting Nov. 17 at its location at 416 South Main Street in Masontown.

The idea for the business came about when a few friends got together and wanted to start something to promote music and art in Preston County. Executive director Josh Salisbury said children were involved in sports and other activities, but there was a lack of a market for the arts for children who were interested in them locally.

The new studio offers:

  • Private lessons
  • Beginner group instruments – guitar, bass, drums, piano, ukulele and vocal lessons
  • General Music Education – music instruction regarding harmonies, regular rhythms, music reading, and exposure to instruments
  • Performance bands – bands that primarily play rock music
  • Home school awareness – general music education.

“Music is such a big part of my life and my family’s life, and you know, my son is a singer in one of the bands, and we just enjoy that life, we enjoy that lifestyle of being able to have music and we wanted to be able to share it with kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity,” Salisbury said.

The WV Sound Foundry has already had a few public and fundraising performances. They will have another performance on December 17 in partnership with the Preston County Youth Center. This performance will include a mix of Christmas and rock music.

If you’re interested in taking classes or a class, the new studio’s hours are based on appointment through their website. Salisbury said they are a bit cheaper than some bands in Morgantown, so locals will want to get out and try.
