Back in July, ElephantThe Proof released his first studio album, EP EP, in front of a niche at goose‘s Fred the festival. With drummer Goose Ben Atkind Leading the way behind the kit, ElephantProof is back with another new studio cut, “Baltimore Scrappledorf”.

Also composed of members Sean cronin (guitar), “Doc” Chris Enright (keys), and Shon gordon (bass), the band has more links with Goose than with Atkind alone. Enright was Goose’s second keyboardist. Remaining in the group for three years, it is the touches of Doc that are heard on the 2016 Moon hut album. Additionally, Cronin has collaborated with Goose on the live, most recently in 2019 at Down the Co. in Boston, MA (19/4).

Musical connections with Goose aside, ElephantProof forges its own distinct path, defined by a heavier, groove-focused instrumental sound. Beginning with the thud and muddy sound of Gordon’s bass, “Baltimore Scrappledorf” quickly turns into an explosive progression. Cronin’s distorted guitar slides to the top of the rhythm section with a raspy riff, while the percussive clavinet sounds of the Enright keys inject flavor into the mix.

The track sits in that tight pocket for a while before Cronin takes over with lead guitar lines. He explores this territory a bit, letting the guitar express itself fully, before Enright and his organ sounds take over and add shine. This section hits another high peak before the pull of a ripcord ends the song in its climax; with no falling action required.

Check out the new single ElephantProof below, recorded at Gary’s electric studio through Robert aceto in Brooklyn, NY, and filmed / edited by Bryan murphy.
