Ranchero singer, actor and record producer Vicente “Chente” Fernández passed away on December 12 at the age of 81. The news was posted through his official Instagram account.

Fernández was admitted to a hospital in Guadalajara, Jalisco on August 6 after suffering a fall inside his Los Tres Portillos ranch, which resulted in an injury to the cervical vertebrae, El Universal reported.

The interpreter was operated on and his family confirmed on August 10, via a statement on their social networks, that his state of health was “serious, but stable”.

It was also assured that “Chente” was on ventilator support and receiving critical patient care in the intensive care unit. His medical team posted several passages on the singer’s Instagram account, where he repeated that his breathing capacity was reduced.

On October 27, it was reported via Instagram that Vicente Fernández had left the intensive care unit.

Despite the fact that the singer was still on intermittent ventilator support, published reports showed improvement. On November 16, it was even reported that he could be “disengaged from mechanical breathing” for periods of up to an hour; also, that he could utter vocalizations as part of his pulmonary rehabilitation process.

On November 30, it was reported that during the previous weekend (27-28) Vicente Fernández was transferred to the intensive care unit again due to inflammation of the lower respiratory tract. Until then, he was still awake and interacting with his family, especially his wife, according to the Instagram post.

However, this Friday, we knew that his state of health had worsened and that his prognosis had changed to “very reserved”. Likewise, the medical team reported that the singer was sedated and his respiratory support had been increased.

Vicente Fernández died on December 12 at 6:15 a.m.
