VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The Academy of Dance and Gymnastics will be hosting their annual “Christmas Extravaganza” show at the Newport News Marriott at City Center to raise funds for Operation Smile.
The Academy of Dance performances will take place December 17-19 at the Marriott at City Center, 740 Town Center Drive in Newport News.
The performance is based on “The Christmas Spectacular” by Radio City Music Hall. The dancers will perform parts of “The Nutcracker” as wooden soldiers, dolls and elves.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to Operation Smile, a global non-profit organization that helps with surgery and care for people with cleft lip and palate in low- and middle-income countries.
“To date, the proceeds of this annual performance have provided enough money for Operation Smile to fund more than 1,000 surgeries,†the Academy of Dance and Gymnastics wrote in a press release Thursday.
“We are grateful to the Academy of Dance and Gymnastics and their efforts to raise funds through this annual event,†said Kathy Magee, Co-Founder and President of Operation Smile. “It is because of the talented efforts of students helping other children who inspire the world to do more. “
The performances take place on the following dates:
- Friday December 17 at 7 p.m.
- Saturday December 18 at 2:30 p.m. / 5 p.m. / 7:30 p.m.
- Sunday December 19 at 1:30 p.m. / 4:00 p.m. / 6:30 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased on the Site of the Academy of Dance and Gymnastics.
