Madison VanDenburg, a Cohoes native who made it to the Season 17 finale of “American Idol,” has released a new single titled “Game Changers,” in conjunction with a three-part documentary about her musical journey.
Also titled “Game Changer”, the first episode of the series is available on VanDenburg’s YouTube channel. The second and third episodes are scheduled to air Sunday, May 8 and May 15 at noon on CBS6 and 6:30 p.m. on CW15.
The series explores how VanDenburg transitioned from “American Idol” to the music industry, which was especially difficult during the pandemic.
VanDenburg caught the eye of veteran music-industry producer and multi-platinum songwriter Kenny Lamb, a Warner/Chappell New York and Nashville alum who helped launch the careers of Grammy- and Dove-winning artists. After some creative encounters, Madison traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, to record with Lamb (‘N Sync, Building 429) and Christopher Rowe (Taylor Swift, Jewel) in September 2021 at world-renowned Blackbird Studio.
“When I heard the ‘Game Changer’ writer’s bedroom work tape, I heard something that I thought really reflected what Madison was all about,” Lamb noted. “That, combined with a strong melody and a hook that makes you feel like you can take on the world. He has a certain attitude and a certain edge – but manages to make himself felt [as] very empowering. It definitely represents who Madison is as an artist and it’s exciting to see where things go next.
The series opened up about the fundamentals of the music industry, songs and songwriting, and followed VanDenburg in the studio with some of the industry’s top record producers, complete with footage. behind the scenes and interviews about the recording process.
As the show grows, viewers get a front row seat to the glamorous team behind the image consulting and photo shoots, featuring cutting-edge stylists and photography professionals. Throughout the show, there are also acoustic performances by VanDenburg, interviews with hit songwriters, producers and other guest artists from “American Idol” and “The Voice.”
