Christine McVie says she and Stevie Nicks will no longer be able to tour with Fleetwood Mac

While not original members, it’s not easy to imagine Fleetwood Mac without Stevie Nicks or Christine McVie. The band released several high performing records with them as singers, including their flagship album, Rumors. Still, they’ve already left the group and, according to McVie, they might not tour with them anymore. Here’s what McVie had to say about the potential for another Fleetwood Mac tour.

Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac with the approval of Christine McVie

In the early 1970s, Nicks worked as a waitress and housekeeper to support her burgeoning music career. She and her then-boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham moved to Los Angeles to pursue duo music, something that didn’t quite go as planned. Although a record producer encouraged them to give up the rest of their band and move on together, their first album failed and their label abandoned them.

As they continued to try to make their music careers work, Mick Fleetwood tried to recruit Buckingham to join Fleetwood Mac. He agreed, but only if Nicks could join us as well. After a little hesitation, the group agreed, but only because McVie got along well with her. As the only other woman in the group, the other members wanted to make sure they got along. Fortunately, McVie and Nicks quickly became friends.

While Nicks initially received criticism for her voice, she quickly became an integral part of the group. Their song, “Dreams”, became the band’s only number one single in the United States.

McVie once said the band was unlikely to tour

In 2021, McVie reflected on the group’s potential for further tours. She admitted that she wasn’t sure they would be able to.

“If we do, it will be without John [McVie] and without Stevie [Nicks], I think, “she told the BBC, by Rolling stone. “I think I’m getting a little too old for that now, especially after having had a year off. I don’t know if I will be able to do it again.

She added that despite their hesitation, she was sure Fleetwood would be up for another tour.

“[He] would do it in love at first sight, ”she said. “But I couldn’t tell. We’re definitely not on tour this year either.

Later, however, McVie reconsidered his comments.

“I gave a cheeky response indicating that the band might be ‘done with it’ or ‘you never know’,” she shared. “It has always been my intention to convey that, especially after last year, we just don’t know what the future holds.”

She added that she hopes the tours are possible, although she cannot be sure.

“By no means have the members of Fleetwood Mac ‘finished’ being a part of the group,” she said. “If anyone deduced this from my statement, it was a misperception and unintentional. Fleetwood Mac is in the DNA of who I am, and I know the same is true of Stevie, Mick and John. As for future tours… Who knows. We continue to hope for the best. “

Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks have both left Fleetwood Mac previously

If Nicks and McVie were to leave the group, it wouldn’t be the first time. After the 1990 album Mask played poorly, Nicks decided to focus his energy on his solo career instead of Fleetwood Mac. After only six years, however, she returned for a reunion tour.

In 1998, two years after Nicks’ return, McVie chose to retire. She had been faced with growing anxiety about the theft and eventually decided that it was no longer tenable for her to tour with the band. After 16 years, however, she chose to join. Since then, the two women have always been an integral part of the group.
